The Animation Production Workshop 2008-2009

A new pan-European animation film training initiative has been selected for support from the MEDIA Programme of the European Community!

The project involves a consortium of 4 of the most prestigious animation film schools in Europe: the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Germany, Gobelins, l’école de l’image in France, the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design or MOME in Hungary and The Animation Workshop in Denmark.

Together these 4 partner schools aim at strengthening networks between the European animation industry and young European students and recent graduates by creating a supplementary qualification programme in animation production.

A group of 16 students, 4 from each school, will travel to every school to follow 4 separate parts of an overview of the entire animation film production process, from concept development through financing to actual production management. Television and feature film, games and interactive media, traditional and cross-platform production processes will all be covered at various stages along the way.
 

Contents

A special focus will be given to the development of new topics and innovative genres and contents for animation projects and to the research for corresponding and new styles and formats.

The first edition of the workshop is mainly composed of the following elements:

1. Overviews (various industry themes, regional, national, international markets, etc.)
2. Toolbox (production tools, from pitching to line production)
3. Case Studies (alongside studio visits, etc.)
4. Creative Workshops (finding new ideas/new ways of finding ideas)

The first two modules in Germany and Hungary will concentrate on the development of the project idea while the third and fourth modules in Denmark and France will centre on production.

In further editions selected project ideas will be treated and developed during the workshops and nominated/presented at the end of the workshops.
